Long-Acting Reversible Contraception

More than half the pregnancies in the United States each year (more than three million) are unintended.

Teen birth rates in the United States have declined to the lowest rates seen in seven decades, yet they still rank high among developed countries. Potter County is ranked as one of the highest teen births in the state of Texas.

Haven Health's Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) Project will address the issue of unintended pregnancies by removing barriers to access, education and affordability to contraceptives. The LARC project is a program to help qualifying women receive long-acting reversible contraception. This means you may be eligible for an IUD or an implant.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologist (ACOG) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommend that LARC be offered as a first-line option for all women, including teens, wanting to prevent pregnancy.

Across all age categories, women who choose LARC methods had significantly lower pregnancy rates – 20 times less than those using a pill, ring or patch. Women who used LARC methods were happier with these methods, and continuation rates are significantly higher compared to non-LARC methods, such as the more commonly used birth control pill or injectable.

As part of this project, Haven Health will provide LARC at no cost to those who qualify. For more information or to find out if you qualify, call 806.322.3599.
